Bells are ringing and crowds are cheering, for it’s Back To School Monday!

Otis seems to have developed a love of dressing up for occasions, which I think is truly fantastic. These “occasions” include such non-dressy events as cookie decorating or going on a play date, but it’s hard to argue when you see him admire his own reflection with such obvious joy. Never one to dissuade quirky dressing, I bought him a sportscoat, and he was so pleased he put it on right away and then jumped around like an overexcited puppy. I think the kid’s one pair of seersucker pants away from the Kennedy compound but going back to school after two weeks at home is definitely an occasion to celebrate.

Next, I will work on getting him to wear the bowtie that my Mom bought him for Christmas. That will definitely make for one happy Mama here.

We received our new poncho from our friends at The Little Hummingbird, and it was an instant hit! It’s still a tiny bit long for her, but we don’t mind growing into our clothes. A perfect fit for Fashion Show Sunday.

It’s hard for us to put it on and not flap our wings. But that’s not bad at all. I just won’t be taking her to a china shop while she’s wearing it.

We have had a lot of rain this weekend, which caused our basement to flood! It shorted out our furnace, so we have no heat until the plumber comes out to check things out tomorrow afternoon. Wah! We may have to huddle for warmth tonight. Sounds like a kid’s dream (and a parent’s sleepless night)!

We were at our friends’ house for dinner, and suddenly Bee appeared out of the shadows in this confection. She looked like a tiny pink Abominable Snow-girl. I can not wait to inherit this beauty.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I have caught myself many times this weekend making a silent list of things I am thankful for, and although I did not say these things out loud, they were surprisingly emotive moments for someone with such a tiny, cold little heart. Let’s just say there was a time or two when my eyes were moist, and I was not even watching embarrassing TV. Hope you were all able to savor such moments this weekend as well.

Ladies and gentlemen, may I present:

But don’t you like my princess crown? I made her Heidi braids, which I tried to sell as a crown. Unfortunately, I was the only one impressed by that one until I remembered some samples I made for my Little Gems bobby pins. This makes a much more impressive crown, doesn’t it?

Two questions, people:

1. Shall we make a return to bangs? For the small one, I mean. She often refuses to wear her hair up or back (she, who is descended from Hair Clip Royalty!) and it’s often in her face. And, I’m forced to admit, the hair-in-the-face is driving me bonkers, so it seems like the only plausible compromise. What say ye?

2. People, we’re at a Barbie/Bratz crossroad here. We say NAY! but have yet to find a good alternative. We’ve looked at Groovy Girls (so unsatisfying and perhaps baby-ishly plush), My Twinn (creepy!) and American Girl (so expensive), but they’re just not close enough to Barbie to satisfy. Anyone have any other suggestions?
