suturno

I think if I could start my professional life over again, I would choose to be a textile designer. I love patterns, and I’ve been trying to figure out a good way to incorporate some into hello shiso designs. One design company whose work I love is Suturno, a Spanish duo working out of Madrid.

I even love their logo:

Last night I was “reading” through their blog archives (I don’t read Spanish) and I found information about their process, which made me love them even more. They will often use hand-carved stamps of simple shapes and make designs from them. I love how organic they feel.

I love seeing how the sketches translate into the finished textiles. I made doodles in my sketchbook some time ago using a similar process, and this is inspiring me to go back and revisit those exercises. I even did one with little rectangles like they used above, but believe me, mine didn’t look nearly as wonderful.

In love with them yet? Go see their work on their website and squeal with delight. What I wouldn’t give for a lovely dress made from one of their fabrics!
