Since we’re talking about necklaces, I wanted to show you the necklace that Otis and I made for his friend Amelia as a Christmas present. Otis and I went through my bag of wool roving and picked shades of pink, since she’s in a pink princess phase right now. Then we set ourselves up with warm water and soap at the kitchen sink and got to work. There are directions here and here (the second one’s a video, via wikstenmade) Before we set the felt balls to dry, I worked a long skewer through them so they looked like a rather unappealing appetizer and the next day, we were ready to string up our necklace with some colored nylon cord.
It was a fun, easy project to do together, and Otis was proud to give his friend something we had made together. This would make a great present for kids or adults!

You never cease to amaze me with these projects. Another friend of mine made similar felt balls (except smaller) for my daughter as a present but they weren’t strung on a necklace, just presented in a handmade cloth bag. My daughter loves to play all kinds of stuff with them, pretending they are food or pouring them for a tea party and numerous other strange make-believe things that I can’t pretend to understand. I’ve been wanting to try something like this but . . . yikes, you know me and crafts. Maybe I will get somewhere with your directions.
I love that! I will definitely try that with my daughter and my bag of random roving colors…
and amelia looooved it! except other kids do as well, especially babies, and they are always assaulting her when she wears the necklace, so now she’s a little scared to…
