Oh my goodness, four weeks? Surprisingly enough, I found myself alone with the kids for the very first time earlier this week and I lived to tell the tale. The logistics of taking care of more than one kid seem tricky, to laughingly understate it, and I’m not looking forward to doing it by myself. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a LOT of wonderful help - between my mom, Fifth Aunt Grandma K and Grandma R, the transition has been tiring but totally doable. Without them, I think I would have been overwhelmed by both the kids and my hormones. What would we do without family?
We are slowly adjusting to the new rhythms of life as a foursome. Bee has been doing well, and has been generally agreeable. With so much sleeping and so few opportunities to exhibit or develop any personality, newborns are just so un-formed. I had forgotten. It becomes all the more obvious in contrast to Otis, with all his singing and performing, his love of charming others, and, of course, his exuberance. I catch fleeting glimpses of him in all his Otis glory, and I ache with how much I miss him.
This weekend will be Bee’s one month birthday. It’s a big event for Chinese families, to celebrate the “full month” or “man yue” and we will be having a little celebration. Pictures and stories to come.

Hi Mimi! I love the recent collages and the recent pics of precious little Bee! I can totally understand missing Otis. Maybe it’s just part of the acclimation and adjustment, and as things settle out and you grow into the 2-kid life, there will be more and more of the old Otis time and less newness. Can’t speak from experience but it seems the way it SHOULD be! I’ve watched one of my close friends go from bewilderment at having two, to growing into it and really enjoying it (though dreading the possibility of kid 3), to actually desiring kid 3, and now is expecting kid 3. (Pls don’t interpret this as any pressure to set your sights on kid 3… I’m only describing her relaxation into the reality of two little ones.)
Hang in there!! Hi to all.

A sweetheart. Happy one month, Miss Bee. Ali has those Babylegs, they barely reach up to her chubby knees. They grow so fast, sigh. Enjoy your sweet girl (and boy!).
P.S. I keep wondering when Bee gets her own tab at the top of the page, maybe that is what you do to mark her six month B-Day?

She’s lovely. Otis beamed in one of the previous pictures. And your other work - your line & art work - also wonderful of course. I’m surprised you can squeeze it in. I remember those ’scary’ times of being left alone with several little ones. Pretty soon, it’ll be ‘old hat’. Just enjoy this time now.
